April 30, 2010Congrats to Angie Jones for winning the Writers Alliance of Gainesville Poetry Contest!
This spring, Angie Jones, Eckerd’s Advancement Communications Assistant and Creative Writing/Film Studies student in PEL, was awarded First Place in the Writers Alliance of Gainesville Poetry Contest. Her prizewinning poem “At the Crossing”—which had been workshopped with Professor Emeritus Peter Meinke at the 2009 Writers in Paradise conference—appeared in the 2010 Bacopa anthology and is forthcoming in Eckerd Review. November 13, 2009Congrats to WIP Alumna Nicole Roberge. Nicole’s memoir, HANG IN THERE, WHEREVER “THERE” IS, will be published in 2010 by Chipmunka Publishing. Based in London, the publisher focuses on both factual and creative literature dealing with mental health disorders.

Karina Berg Johansson
October 15, 2009Congratulations to Karina Berg Johansson (WIP ’08, ’09) who has just sold the rights to the novel she was working on during the 2009 Writers in Paradise conference. Synvilla in Swedish, or Delusion in English, will be published in Swedish as a YA novel by the Swedish publisher Rabén & Sjögren in the fall of 2010.
Karina was also selected for “Best Of” her 2009 novel workshop with Dennis Lehane and an excerpt of her novel appears in Sabal Vol 4.

July 14, 2009Congratulations to WIP Alumna Lori Roy (’06, ’08, ’09). Lori was recently signed by literary agent Jenny Bent at The Bent Agency. Her novel, BENT ROAD, was bought at auction by Denise Roy at Dutton. BENT ROAD is slated for publication in 2010.
In addition to attending Writers in Paradise, Lori has also studied at the Solstice Summer Writers’ Conference at Pine Manor College.

Angie will also have the opportunity to serve as a PEL student representative on the Editorial Board of the 2010 Eckerd Review, the literary review of Eckerd College.
